Year 7 Subject Parents’ Evening Thursday 5th May 2016 – 4.30 p.m to 7.00 p.m

This evening will provide you with an invaluable opportunity to discuss with subject teachers the progress your child has made so far.  This is a significant opportunity and I hope you are able to attend.

This Parents' Evening will be arranged on an appointments basis. Parents will be able to book online from 8.00am on Tuesday 19th April up to 8.00am on Thursday 5th May 2016 or if you do not have access to the internet by calling our Student Administration Team on 01909 552414.  The electronic booking sheet will include time of appointment, subject, teacher and location.  Appointments are booked to last a maximum of four minutes to allow for movement time. If you have something particular you wish to discuss, you can indicate this in the comments box when you make your appointment. Please encourage your child to attend with you; the evening is after all about them, how well they are doing and what they need to do to improve. The evening's appointments will end promptly at 7.00 p.m. and the buildings vacated by 7.15 p.m.

In some cases students are taught by more than one teacher for the same subject. You can of course make an appointment with a particular teacher, if you have an issue you would like to raise with them. However, to avoid over booking, the class teacher will inform the students which teacher will see which students.

Details of how to log in and make an appointment can be found here - Parents Guide for Booking Appointments.pdf

As this is a subject parents' evening, if you have concerns that you wish to discuss with Form Tutor, Head of House or Assistant Heads of House, please arrange a separate appointment by telephone.  However, if you have concerns regarding special educational needs, please ring Mrs Woodward in the Learning Support Faculty to arrange an appointment.

Car parking is available in the bus park.  Please do not park in front of the Main Entrance or on the service road at the rear of the school as there is insufficient room here. If you are unable to walk up the stairs to access the first floor a lift is available, please see the receptionist located at the entrance to the New Building on arrival.

Sheffield Hallam University Secondary Initial Teacher Education Placements

The school is very proud to announce we have been featured in the Sheffield Hallam University Secondary Initial Teacher Education Placements pamphlet for 2016/17!

This fantastic article features pen-portraits of Mr Siddle and Mr Jaffrey and the wonderful training they received during their initial teacher education placement. It also highlights the incredible work and support provided by the Initial Teacher Training Team: from leadership level, to subject mentors, host and tutors.

As a school we take up to 20 trainees each year which are mostly PGCE students working across a broad range of subject areas including PE, Computer Studies, History, D&T, RE, Citizenship and Social Sciences. We have also taken students from Sheffield Hallam’s Education Studies and Childhood Studies courses.

We are very proud to be providing undergraduate and PGCE trainees with the best possible preparation for a successful career in teaching.

National Citizen Service - Silver Award
We are very excited to announce that we have just received the Silver Award for recruitment to the National Citizen Service!

This means that we have helped recruit between 31-60 students to the NCS (National Citizen Service). In actual fact we have recruited 48 students!

The NCS is a three phase programme, two of which will provide our students with the chance to experience life away from home.

They will meet new people and make new friends whilst developing independent living skills that will help nurture their transition into adult life. Students will also have the opportunity to make a difference in their local community by planning and delivering their very own social action project! This will equip our students with the skills and experiences necessary to boost their CV and confidence as well as strengthen any UCAS applications made by the students.

Check out their video -

For more information please click here:

The Rotherham United Community Sports Trust has rewarded us a certificate in recognition of our assistance, a signed and framed RUFC shirt and 20 RUFC match day tickets!

This a great initiative and we hope all our students enjoy the experience and learn lots from it. We look forward to hearing about how you all get on!
